Interview: The Frick Café Murals
September 22, 2025
In an interview with Xavier F. Salomon, Deputy Director and Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator, artist Darren Waterston discusses his approach to creating two murals and other design details for Westmoreland, the first-ever café at The Frick Collection’s Fifth Avenue home. Darren explores the art historical influences that informed this project—including pieces from throughout our permanent collection—his longstanding love of the Frick, and his process bringing his vision to life in one of the museum’s newest spaces.
